Thread: October 2013 Flea Market Finds, a leather Razor Pouch and Two Straight Razors

I haven’t posted anything here in a while, but I picked up some interesting items at the Flea Market last Sunday.

I scored a well-made, two-razor, razor pouch for $8. The pouch is a bit stained, but I’m hoping I can clean it up. I like the style, so I may even try duplicating it. The leather is thin, but seems strong and supple. I’ll have to ask in at my local Tandy store to see if they can tell me what kind of leather it is. The only thing actually wrong with the pouch, is that the snap is missing its back piece. I have plenty of spares.

The pouch came with two razors in it; a decent 6/8 Clauss, and a 9/16 Electric Razor. The Clauss has a broken scale, but the blade is pretty clean. It should buff up nicely. The Electric will need a bit more work. It has someone’s name scratched into the right side. That should disappear once I regrind it a bit.

In case anyone is interested in old tools, I also picked up this old wooden moulding plane. I don’t particularly need it, but I couldn’t pass it up for the $5 the seller wanted for it. It is marked as being made by L.H. Taber, who apparently worked for a time at his family’s business, the Taber Plane Company in New Bedford, MA. According to some information I found online, L.H. Taber made planes from 1832 to 1852.
