Default Geo. Wostenholm & Son "Canuck"

A few days ago I was given my Grandfathers Geo. Wostenholm & Son "Canuck" straight razor. This is my first straight, and although I do plan to use it, I don't know if it will be a "daily driver"...

I'm having a hard time getting any history on the "Canuck", hopefully some one here can let me know what I have other then a family keepsake.

To good to trust to a mediocre hone person. Have it done professionally and get a good strop before you use it.

Can't give you any history but it is one fine heirloom to get. Do be careful of that wicked point when you get a chance to shave with it. You should get extra points for a shave where that point doesn't come into play and nick you.

no worries there, I sent it out to gssixguns this afternoon for honing and clean up. I'd like to do my own honing down the road, but will pick up a "beater" razor to practice on. Still looking for a strop though.

heirloom razors are kind of special for most of us. I have one and it is not my daily driver either. I'm pretty sure neither of us could wear them out in our lifetimes, however it is kind of nice to have that special blade for special days. I also like to think that I am going to pass it along in more or less the same condition I got it. Hopefully it will be around for many more generations.

Completely agree about wicked point! Be very careful! I've only been using a straight razor for a couple of months and my square point straight straight razor has drawn a lot more blood than my round point razor (due to my inexperience). You might want to consider getting a decent round point razor which are a little more forgiving to us newbies!!! Good Luck!! BTW - beautiful razor and a great keepsake!!

I've been thinking about getting a safer beginner razor with a round point, but I'm probably going to go all in at first and hope for the best. If the first pass goes that bad I can always finish with a DE

I just picked up one. Hoping to start a restoration.

I've checked out the wostenholm history on that sight before. What I'd really like to find out about though is the "canuck" model that I have. I'm not too sure if the etchings really signify any thing or can be tied to a specific time frame
