    Default Early Christmas

My father in law bought me an antique barber cabinet for Christmas and gave me it today. It also came with a vintage horsehide strop from S. J. Laubagh in Allentown, PA. The strop is being cleaned atm so no pics yet, but it is kind of local for me so I like it more because of that.

The cabinet will remain in as found condition except for putting the drawer hinge back on and cleaning the latch so it works again.

Crusty, love it! I have two old Russian shell strops. Both give whisper quiet draw on the leather side. One of the strops has my last name on it. Seem a possible old, old relative had been a barber supplier in NYC and had his name on the strops he sold. I love what the past sometimes reveals. Enjoy your cabinet and strop!

I know that I am just a youngster here (well for the most part) but I vote for at least the restoration of the original finish(stain and all). I guess that would depend on where the cabinet would be located. (Again only my personal opinion)

I'm a big fan of rusty and crusty antiques. Imo it shows their story and gives them a personality as unique as each of us.

To me it looks like a poor paint job at some stage - over an original laquer finish - which is why it's peeled. Given that the paint is not original, I'd take it back and re-lacquer.

Same here. I would like it no matter what the finish. Your call is the best call :<0)

I love it, I'd just find a good clear coating to preserve the finish and seal in that sexy lead paint
