6 day set
My first "set" just arrived and I thought I would share what I received in hopes of gathering more information.
SHEFFIELD JOHN WILLIAMS VINTAGE STRAIGHT RAZOR SET OF 6 BLADES IN ORIGINAL CASE - 6 DAYS OF THE WEEK - OFF SUNDAY
click on this link.......
Sheffield Vintage Straight Razor Set of 6 Blades Orig Case Days of The Week | eBay
Tang reads “John Williams” “Damascus Steel Sheffield”
There was no measurement of the blades and the pics didn’t show size relative to anything. The blade is. 7/16th x 2 3/4, More like I would expect a woman’s set.
These came shave ready as proven this morning, practically new with very little signs of usage.
I would like to confirm aprox date and if in fact pre 1881 as was discussed on this forum a couple of years ago.
Aug 2011 a thread started by volleykinginnc who was inquiring on SRP regarding a potential purchase.
JimmyHAD If the tang has "Made In England" stamped on it they are post 1881, if not .... it only reads "Sheffield" they were produced before that year.
Any additional information on this set would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks SRP Guys and GalsS.L.A.M.,.......SHAVE LIKE A MAN!!!

As far as the "Made in England" denoting post 1881. That would be true if the set was made for export to the US. If they were made for domestic use, the stamp would not be required.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

I'll bet those blades can maneuver around your face like a Lamborghini around a mountain road! No help here dating them but I'll bet they're smooth shavers.

Nice looking set of razors. I saw that set on eBay and was all I could do to not bid on them.
I have 5 John Williams and none say 'Made In England'. It took me 5 years to collect these 5 and besides the ones I have and the 6 you have in the past 5+ years I've only seen one 7 day set, one 6 day set and maybe 5-6 other singles. There isn't much info on them, all I found was here;
http://www.taylors1000.com/manufactu...acturers_w.htm
A while back I did contact and sent pics to the owner of The Invisible Edge and he told me he didn't have any info on them, I guess he has a good bit of literature on razors. He told me by looking at the grind he would guess they were from early 1900 to about 1920-30 and he would consider them 'extremely scarce' and to enjoy them for being that.
Now, what I can personally tell you is they are some extremely nice shaving razors and they reminded me of Swedish steel when honing. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine!Last edited by DoughBoy68; 12-22-2013 at 01:47 AM.

I thought the date for country stampings was post 1891? They look early 20th century.
Are the scales celluloid, or ivory?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

No no! No hot pins. Just get some close-up pictures of the scales and pins. Photo thru a magnifier of some sort. Is it a six day set or a 7 day missing one?
