If i were you I would polish it up and see what u got and send it out to be honed. You however are not me so whether you choose to try your hands at restoration at this point in time is all up to you, I say just get it honed up and learned to shave.

We don't do valuations, but I wouldn't worry about detracting from this particular razors value. It's a nice razor suitable for shaving, not a bag of gold.
That is exactly what I was hoping some one would say. I think it will be a good razor to get started on, I was hoping it would be a decent blade. Not a bag of gold? Awe, shucks!

I will check into honing services on the site. Marc offered to assist. Great advice! Thanks guys!

It is not a bag of gold, but I am attracted to that etching. Please don't attempt a restoration on your own, unless you have experience. It looks like a good blade overall. As far as the tang is it me or is the N turned 90 degrees from the R? Strange with such fancy etching the front of the tang is blank (usually where the makers mark is).
Good advice getting it to an experienced honer.

I know what you mean about the etching. I think that is why I bought it. It was so many years ago. I will not attempt to clean it up more that a rag and some oil. I have decided to get it honed by someone who knows what they are doing . the markings look like someone tried clean up some rust or something and wore the tang down. There is a ghost of a mark on the opposite side but I can't capture it with my camera. I need CSI to do this for me. I will call up Horatio and see if he can help. Lol
