2 from Uncle Bill
AWhile back I posted about an Uncle who is retired and frequents auctions, collecting old golf clubs. I asked him to be on the lookout for straights and he scored a couple good ones pretty quickly. When I went to collect them he gave me a few DE and SE that he acquired over the years, asking me if I could sell them. Today I took a little time to restore 2 of them. Here they are.
First is a Valet Autostrop in brass, just the razor, no strop or case. It cleaned up nicely.
Next is a tiny gillette DE travel razor, in the original leather pouch. All in good condition.though the leather is a bit brittle where the blade box would go.
These two , along with 2 others, I gave him $25.
Now all I need is a new blade for the Valet, and a blade box for the Gillette. Anybody have some?
If I hone the Valet blade, will it be too short to work properly?(there are some chips at the edge that need removing)
Any help or info is welcome, as this is my first foray into safety razor restores.
Thank you in advance.

NOS Valet blades come up fairly often on the 'bay. There are Feather blades that work well. I would order a pack of those and a sampler pack of DE blades
Here is a familiarization video that can help.

There were two different lengths of valet blades a mm or 2 difference.

Those Feathers for the Autostrops are thicker than the feather DE blades and work great! I did not find them too harsh at all!

I have a brass blade box, but it needs to be cleaned up and restored. PM me your address and it's yours.

I have done the same. I have an autostrop strop loaded with green croOx. Works wonders on an old blade, followed with a good whacking on leather. Good thing about these, you can treat them as a disposable, or strop them back. If you can thead it thru, it works!
Kinda fun messin with them! If you want a fine shave from a Valet, get some of the Feathers.
You won't regret it!
