A day with..Matro Livi
I just wanted you to tell about my last week's experience in the Mastro Livi's laborator in Perugia, where i saw coming to the world my last razor realized in "acciaio damasco".
I am, fortunately, a friend of him and i could contact and plan with him my visit on 1 February.
At 8.00 o' clock I was already there, excited as a child and Mastro Livi begun to work on my razor from the cutting of the steel. Then he form the billet and start to forge it and i had the possibility to follow all the steps including the "cooking".
When he finished all the stages , with the billet drew the knife and started to remove metal grinding until you get a "full hollow " with 4 mol of progressive measures . The moment of choice has been difficult to handle . There were so many materials to choose from , horn , wood and bone. I chose a buffalo horn with white spots that combine with damask stripes . Then mastro has passed the razor on the stones to sharpen and I finally got to try my new razor. A rich soapy with the legendary P160 soap using a brush also made by the mastro and the feeling was instantly amazing . This is the best razor I've tried the craftsman Perugia. The blade slides and sings beautifully, at the end of the shave even a red dot . Needless to describe the emotions experienced in an entire day. We started at 8.00 am and finished work at 9.00 pm . With the steel billet remained , the master has created a beautiful keychain that I got together with the case of olive wood . A work of art that I have seen the birth and an unforgettable memory. I post some photos of the razor. I'm not a great photographer and I apologize . Thank you.

Thanked: 284It's a nice thing to own a custom made razor - but to see it actually being made for you is quite special. Congrats on the new razor.
I love living in the past...

You are fortunate indeed! Your choice of those horn scales was a great one; their grain really sets off the grain of the Damascus steel!

Congratulations Stefano for your Mastro Livi Damascus steel razor! A truly beautiful razor and I too was honored to watch the whole process of the making. It is always amazing to watch Mastro Livi at work giving expression to his noble art.
I would also like to thank you for the lovely pack of almond soap you gave me. Also thanks for having allowed me to film the making of your razor: this is going to be my next video about Mastro Livi art and soon published on my YouTube channel.
Thanks for sharing this story with us and enjoy your Mastro Livi razors! The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

I thank all the friends of this wonderful forum for the compliments and for sharing with me photos of this straight razor. A special thanks to razorguy who is a leading expert on razors, a dear friend and also a talented filmmaker. Also I hope to see as' soon his latest movie on the work of master Livi. I hope you like the almond soap made from this workshop near Bologna, which is a demonstration of how in Italy they still produce excellent homemade products.

Thank you Stefano for the kind words of appreciation about me and my "supposed talent as a filmmaker", not to mention for the "leading expert in razors": I know I am not like that at all. I have known just one leading expert in razors and this is Mastro Livi. And you know he certainly is!
I am sure you remember almond scented soaps are among my favorite so, as far as it concerns the smell of the soap you gave me, I certainly like it. As for the quality, I guess I need to give it another chance in order to understand better how it performs. Thank you!
I agree with you: here in Italy we have excellent shaving soap and cream makers. The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+
