MY FIRST HONE
I scored this "Velvet Edge" Razor Hone For Barber's Use today complete with the original box. The shopkeeper sold it to me for $5.00. I don't know anything about barber's hones, but this one appears to be in excellent shape; there are no chips, the faces appear minimally used, and the box is completely intact except for some minor water staining; there's no instruction sheet, though.
From what I've read at this SRP post, "Velvet Edge" hones are well regarded, and it seems that I got a bargain, too!

Congratulations to you bargain. I don't know anything about that hone but at that price I can't see how it wouldn't be a great purchase.

Thanked: 4826Modine test barber hones fairly regularly. According to his research (and I'm paraphrasing) it is more than 8K equivalent in grit and after 8 passes it showed no signs of a wire edge or over honing. I'm too lazy to copy paste it. It should be good for refreshes.
