Thanked: 0New razor day!!
This just came today as my second razor and certainly not the last! It seems to be in really good shape except a weird discoloration around the edge but it doesn't look like anything serious; it still takes a great edge and shaves way better than my first razor. I've owned a lot of case knives but never a razor and would love any information on it! Ive also heard that the cracked ice scales can cause corrosion which sounds odd to me so if anyone could clarify that, I would appreciate it. Sorry for the picture quality, the lighting in this room is weird.

Thanked: 1263The cracked ice scales were made from celluloid, which over time if not cared for properly can break down and when it does releases a gas which will give off a camphorish vinegary smell. This breakdown is called cel rot and will eat away at steel. Hard to tell from your pics if this is the case.

Thanked: 0Thank you, I wasn't sure if the cracked ice were celluloid or not which is what caused the confusion. It doesn't really look like damage from the scales after looking at some other threads but hopefully these will be a bit better.

Thanked: 1263From those pics it looks like you'll be just fine...may have just been some staining on the blade. Usually with cel rot it will follow the shape of the scales as the blade sits in them and the scales will have yellowed somewhat.
