I've been avoiding both the bay and the B/S/T threads lately to keep the AD's in hand. That was until this week when sitting and killing time I got on ebay, found a razor and set a snipe. As it turns out no one else bid on the 11/16 Henry Sears & Son 905. I actually had half forgotten that I set a snipe up for this one so I was a bit surprised when ebay informed me that I had won the auction.
I've enjoyed the Buhl Sons shoulderless that I picked up a few months ago at a very good price and it's had me wanting to try a few more "hardware" razors. When I sumbled across the Henry Sears, another shoulderless no-less, I couldn't help placing a bid. Unfortunately I didn't save any of the pictures from the listing so I'll have to wait to post some of my own once it shows up.
Arriving on Monday

This one? If so, it looks like you have a very nice razor inbound. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2677ec1fad.png
That's the one! I've bought a couple of razors from this seller with no real complaints and this one looked pretty nice. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces sometime next week.
This one came in the mail today:

This is my first new production razor. All of my others are vintage with the exception of my one custom from Max Sprecher. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's shave. ;)
I'm going to give this stuff another try[emoji12]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...826f4d19dc.jpg
It's funny, there are so many soaps out there I rarely buy the same one twice, and with a robust selection to choose from, they all last for a really long time.
Aloha!
I've been using Colonel Conk's Rio Grande Lavender aftershave balm once in a while and really like it. So I decided to get the soap and some matching cologne as well. Lavender is supposed to be a very calming fragrance perfect for shaving at night before bed. So that's what I'll use it for.
In the shave den already;

In the mail to match;
Colonel Conk Lavender shaving soap and C.O. Bigelow Lavender Cologne:

I also ordered Lavender/Eucalyptus/Tea Tree shaving soap from Perfectly Natural Soap Comapny just to compare to Conk's Lavender. I think the Eucalyptus will be nice with the Lavender, and Tea Tree Oil is always welcome. We'll see if it doesn't overpower the Lavender;

Here's to a great evening shave and a good night's sleep.

Agreed.
I have never purchased a soap scent more than once. A brand? For sure. I have quite a few Stirlings (as an example) but all different scents.
I do buy two creams more than once. Proraso Green shaving cream and Cremo Cooling Menthol. Both of them I use frequently and always want a supply of in my shaving den. But soaps? I personally have never bought the same scent twice, in all the decades of wet shaving.
I always bloom the puck, I don't see a point in not doing that
If I had to bloom a soap for it to work I wouldn't use it.
Good for you. Unfortunately I have arthritis in my hands and must bloom to get an easy lather. Other bloom for other good reason. I'm so glad you don't have a problem requiring you to bloom soap. So everyone knows, I'm sick and tired of this don't bloom/bloom bias, there are reasons people need or chose do things differently and if someone blooms, they don't need to be demeaned by other soap freaks. Please have a nice day.
Clearly you just don'r get it. Yes, I did find the post offensive; it's not your business to tell me or anyone else to not bloom their soap. This isn't a contest to see who lathers the best, easiest or without bloom. We are hear to enjoy our shaves and every time someone tells another person they should not bloom, all you are doing is casting shade on another persons shave and discouraging them. That's just bad form. For your information I don't use soaps that are hard to lather, all my soaps are of the easiest to lather but your comment shows me you have no idea how involved a disability can be.
Sheesh,, There Is Just A Little Misunderstanding Going On Here,, Really If You 2 Were Face Too Face It Would All Be Good, 32T Has Always Been A Pretty Easy Going Guy,, But Some Times The Web Comes Across A Little Harsh,, But I,m Sure He Ment No Harm By His Comments,, Ty
I'm sorry for being harsh. This has been a pet peeve since I started wet shaving. I have been demeaned more times than I can count for not being able to work my soap without blooming it first. I'm a bit sensitive about the matter and it brings out the worst in me. Sorry to be a drag, but it really doesn't matter if someone blooms or not. However, on this and the other boards I'm on, if you mention that you bloom you get a response not dissimilar to yours. Someone who doesn't bloom just has to make a negative comment, why? Why, especially since I'm sure 50% bloom and 50% don't, blooming neither makes you a poor latherer nor a lesser person. I'm sure you can appreciate this, and in terms of arthritis, I hope you don't have it. I have only 3 good strong fingers on my right hand and it is not only very painful but it limits everything I can do with my hands. Blooming is a lifesaver for me, or it is back to canned goop.
I,m A bit Sensitive To The Matter And It Brings Out The Worst In Me,, "I Noticed" Bloom It Is, If It Works For You Just Do It,, Really I Dont See Any Hard Feelings Here!! For Heavens Sake Its Soap!!! Lather Up Shave On,, Ty
Wait.............doesn't everyone still wait up to see St Nick? :dropjaw:
So what seasons do all these different soaps bloom?
I have to confess that I had to search the www to find out what blooming is. Dictionaries on line did not have the answer. I keep my soap and creams in tubs and screw the top back on. That keeps the surface moist enough for me.
I saw a video of a guy blooming his soap in a gallon size jug filled with some scented water for 2 hours. He claims he loses about 25% of soap every time he does that. :(
Woohoo!!! I finally snatched up one of those sweet hybrid razors!
Incoming, one Rolls Razor!!!

It may have a rough spot or two, but considering I paid more for the flat-rate shipping than my winning bid, I'll be tickled as long as it functions perfectly!

This, along with a few purchases of restoration tools lately, will have me quite satisfied for a while! Or at least until I can make some sort of income from this hobby, rather than spending....
1 kilo of Cella soap
should be at my door monday :-)
You're darn right, I'm gonna use it!!! But not as soon as it gets here... things must happen!
First, I will take everything apart that is suppose to do so, inspect it, put it back together, and check to make sure it is all mechanically sound. Then I will address any issues I find. After that, I will address the blade. Probably won't hurt to put a drop of Ballistol on each track while I'm at it.
