Ok , I " broke down " . . " gave in " or whatever . But I just place an order with Alastair at Westholme Strops. Shell Cordavon with flax linen as the secondary . He advised of an approx 3 week completion . He is excellent to work with. A true gent !
This is what I got this week.
5 blades that have been cleaned up just a bit. Still some pitting but rust is gone. Picked up all 5 for 21 bucks. Figured if I can make one good one then I've come out ahead. Should be able to get most of them back in order. Wont be nothing really special but I will have a few to get me thru part of the winter now as that stock has dwindled down a lot...Couple are sholderless and one french tip. Things Ive been looking for lately.

Then I won this little shaver from the Manhattan Razor company for 12 bucks. But when it showed up the tip was bent. I complained to the seller as he said it was in good shape. Got a full refund so i figured, if nothing else, I got a nice set of scales for free. Tried to straighten the tip and it snapped. I figured it would but had to try to make it closer to straight. Full hollow so it was very thin. Might make a nice shorty or round point.

Next up is a Boker. I already have one of these but the price was so low I just couldn't pass it up. A bit of hone ware but no real rust. The scales are broken but the wedge will be a good piece to save plus a set of new scales and it will be another good razor project for winter time. The one I have has the name Boker in an arch. This one its straight. The tree looks the same on both so who knows which on is the older one?

Last one is in sad shape. It was given to me by a friend who recently found out I like Straight Razors. He said it was his dad's and he's been dragging it around in a box for 20+ years and has no idea what he was going to do with it. I asked him if he would like to learn to use it. I'd fix it up for him. But he said he had no interest in learning. His electric works just fine for him. Universal Cutlery Co. Blue Point. Its going to need a lot of work to make it usable with reshaping the edge and shoulder. Don't know if I can do anything with the spine ware as its a bunch!

So, nothing special. No choppers, No W&B's, No customs, but I spent less than 30 bucks and came out with 8 razors. I couldn't be happier. :)
Awaiting a reworked Cattaraugus 226 from Gssixgun. Had broken MOP on tang that Glen replaced with black MOP recon stone, polished & honed. Oh, and my 2 Westholmes (Cordovan shell/natural linen, Roo/hemp) came in. Really spectacular strops. Supple and buttery soft. I like the slight draw of the Roo.
I'm waiting on a Fermarud Copac. 4/8 coming from Costa Rica. It's been about a week. Maybe another week before I get it.
I think numbers 2 and 3 look pretty cool. I have a little French wedge with that profile, not hollow-ground like those, but the shape just really agrees with my neck, gives some really sweet shaves. What are the makers? (Can't quite make out the tang stamps.)
On the profile, what's so nice is that they smile, so that's good for hollows; the heel is narrow, so good for under the nose; and the toe is wide, for those big strokes. It's a great combination.
My new order, old-school loom strop with pounch

This stuff just arrived this weekend. I got the big block of Cella which looks like it will last me a decade, Mike's Natural "Barber Shop", Alvarez Gomez (I love this stuff), and some Floid Vigoroso.
Attachment 276794
I have just placed an order for one of these. RazoRock synthetic knot with an aluminium handle based on the old Rubberset design.

Expecting another Herder 25 blade soon.
Soon....
Attachment 276916
Another one. Are you trying to get a seven day set?
Oh! I am settling for a pair! :D
YOU may have the rest, My Friend! ;)
Attachment 276917
Well Tom, I have to say I have always been a sucker for a nice pair!
There are some that have costs me dearly.
I can't believe I won a beat up old Greaves today...very nice surprise, and one that will have to be expertly restored to save the scales, which I really liked as well as the blade itself...

Greavses have souls, I always say! :tu
That adjusts the tension on the strop!
A badger knot on a slow boat from China. Think they are called a Junk...I'm hoping they are referring to the boat, and not the knot.
Yes, it's 100% thrue)))

I’m new and moving from a Shavette to a Dovo 5/8 which should be arriving in the mail today
In the past I've tried taking pictures and they look like crap. I even bought a light box but was never happy with it. I am fully aware that there are many out there that have made their own light boxes but that skill evades me so I decided to try a different light box and so far I'm pleased with it. It's easy to set up and use and from what little playing I've done I like the results.

I love your Troll!
I don't remember you making one.
I must be getting old...........
I got the idea from 'someone' here at the forum. I really didn't realize that I was being a copy cat until 'someone else's Troll' showed up. It was then that I remember seeing his troll and realized that's what gave me the idea.
I didn't make it, a good friend did it for me and he never wants another Troll Project again. He actually filled the body with epoxy to give it stability. I wanted it more as a novelty in the man cave than a functioning brush.
The first time my youngest daughter was here with the kids she went to use the bathroom and I heard her yell DAD! You've got a Troll!! Then of course the kids had to see. I guess she about peed herself before she could get the kids out of the bathroom.
I know of only a handful of these and no one in that group I think would be offended by a copy cat. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
They are all custom! You belong to a pretty exclusive group.:tu
In case anyone is bored.....;)

ok, I've pretty much only gotten things off of the B/S/T thread until now, but in a fit of madness, I bought a few other razors that would need some work, but looked to have promise.
One is a Wade & Butcher said to be in decent shape
One is Wostenholm had a broken scale that was apparently repaired poorly
One is a Joseph Rogers & Sons that the seller through could provide scales for the second one, but it might be worth honing up as well.
The Wostenholm looked to have the most potential to my uneducated eye
Of course, that's the bigger problem, I have no idea how to start doing a restore, and my skills while learning certainly wouldn't be good enough to do justice to these blades (as cheap as they were)

A Henkotsu kamisori
Got them today and got a better look at them. The wade & butcher's patina isn't nearly as bad after a quick clean up. The wostenholm is very nice, but the scale is lousy and I think I'll get it replaced. The last is even smaller than it appears on screen. Looks like a wedge, but only maybe 4/8" and short as well.
I think I'll find a pro to do a full restore on the Wostenholm along with new scales to fit, might also get them to do a simple hone on the W&B, and the last I may save and use as my experiment blade for learning to hone.
another jnat for the collection
