Not too shabby. Certainly not the worst "first post" ever made on here :p.
Welcome aboard! You have obviously been lurking & reading for a bit, but you should consider making an introductory post in the Member Introduction section. We don't bite, that's what we have spike-point razors for :rofl2:.
I'm not planning on getting heavily into honing anytime soon, but do want to be able to maintain what I have and have started experimenting with Pasted Strops and Barbers Hones.
I came across a lot of hones that are supposed to be among the best and ended up getting them - A Lakeside, ItsaPeech, and a Panama
And I still have a batch of soap from the Italian Barber site that is on the way
I’ve got an eBay lot with three blades headed my way. They all look like they should clean up nicely.

My first piece of swedish steel. Not sure how to get started with it, but looking forward to using it.
That might be a good option, I'm new at the game of razors and already my overconfidence has become obvious. Will take you up on your offer.
Well, it comes with an adjustable stand like a microscope. From other reports, the 500x may or may not be very close to the truth. I would guess that one with a greater pixel count may be better. the one on order is a 2MP and some are 5MP.
Should be here by the time New Year's hangovers are done with!
I will pass on what I find.
Cheerz!

Today the mail-office pleased me with a nice French razor)))

This arrived from the SRP classifieds in time for Christmas for my son .

Great items available to those that act quickly!
Cheers.
That knife is a little larger than I thought it was. Still a great deal you picked up!
Not Razor Related, but my cheapie made by the C. H. Ina Company's 3/8" Drive torque wrench failed so it's out in the trash and this one is here to replace it. A made by PROTO in the USA- J6012C 3/8" Drive with a 20-100# range at + or - 3% accuracy.

Sorry but I can't afford a $1000.00 + Snap On so this will have to do.
Pre, or just around WW2 is the estimate. Very minty..
just want to hone it up still.
:tu
And it’s bigger than I expected as well, but that’s a good thing. Feels great in hand.
Man there is some nice stuff happening here.
Proto makes good tools. I used to have quite a few of them when I had heavy equipment. Now most of them are in my brothers shop as he now has heavy equipment and I have little use for a 2” wrench or a 3/4 drive set of sockets.
The pocket knife caught my eye in the classifieds and my wallet is happy you are faster.
I’m loving the French razor, the scales in particular.

THAT thing seems pristine! Nice!
I have been fortunate to get a few which have come in. A Sheffield and a French (I Think?)
Breathing a sigh of relief. I shall retire just as I was getting good.....Shame! :)
One of the latest John Milners I have seen. Intrinsic!
The French one definitely has French scales. No doubt.
Cracking-up in fine French fashion. Guyonneau.
Can someone interpret the blade etch?
'Solingine Art' suggests 'As done by Solingers'?
The rest? German?
I don't think much, if any, use on either.

Those are some sweet razors, Tom. Incredible condition. Hopefully they'll appear in the SOTD thread soon.
The etch on the last one translates to;
On machine
Hollow ground.
Nice razors.
I think you have it -- I think this might actually be a French-made razor but it's like Sheffield makers putting "Hamburg Ring" on their blades. In German "Art" can mean "kind of" or "type" (like a kind of car, or a type of car) or method ("Bauart" can mean a kind of construction or a way of constructing things). So this might mean it's a Solingen-type razor or a razor made by Solingen methods.
Thank you, Gents!
It seems to be all-French!
I found the John Milner to be interesting.
The other example I have is a completely primitive wedge.
I need to see how long that name ran.

Got this one coming my way, with this added to the collection I will complete my 7-day set of my favorite shavers consisting of mostly vintage Henckels.
Next up is to create a nice 7 day set wooden box

The 6/8 beaut is delivering today, my first. It'll be hard to have my wife wrap it so I can open it on Christmas. 12/22 will be my last shave day before Christmas so I've got a bit of growth to work with. Man, I can't wait!
Shipped today from SRD Naniwa Combination Stone 3000 & 8000 Grit. Didn't think you all needed a picture.
I am excited about my first strait razor is in the mail. It's the dovo that was in the b/s/t section. I also have a new strop called " the big daddy" ( don't google that unless you want to see stuff you will never unsee...trust me), but I am sooo excited right now. Looks like I am going to need a bigger wall to display my knives, and soon to be my strait razors.
Got this one coming from rodb in Minnesota. Will hopefully be here Friday.

They look better than I expected in real life. The pictures are from before I cleaned them up wish soap and water. Itsapeech is in almost perfect shape, while the Panama and Lakeside have a nick or two, but have a lot of good surface space and don't show signs of the binding breaking apart either.
Tested the Lakeside last night with a razor that I'd used until it felt pretty dull and got a very smooth and close shave off of the blade, without stropping in between honing and shaving.

Just received a Union Cutlery Co., "Spike" razor in pretty good shape. Nice little modern wedge blade with almost zero hone wear. Just needs some cleaning and a trip to the hones. These little modern wedges are reliable workhorses!

I have been at work for three weeks.
Waiting on my Ball Engineers Watch. I is a engineer, not the smart kind, the kind that runs trains. Attachment 280701 I ordered the blue face.
I have an SRD long English bridle strop, and some Eton College aftershave, landing before Christmas.
A couple of nights ago, after an exceptionally rough day at work, and an elevated blood-alcohol content, I found myself checking one of my online "honey holes". A razor was going to end while I was at work the next day, and it was still barely more than the opening bid. So I did the online auction version of an "impulse buy", and put in a low-ball bid of a couple bucks more than the current bid. :beer2:
To be filed under "my bid was lower than the shipping & handling charges from a few states away"...
Attachment 280708
I was worried about the size, but the hone wear is minimal. I guess it was a modest size from the start.
Attachment 280709
This is probably the only reason I considered bidding at all...
Attachment 280710
It comes with the original box, complete with handwritten date of grinding!!! That's as close as you'll ever get to a birthday for any vintage razor, IMO! None of my Genco's will have such an honor ";".
Just starting but check out this thread.
