That is some crazy old wood Mike.
Got a gift to friend - Merkur 23c.
I think a beginner will like it.

I have an old little turned bowl from AU which is made of that, I think. Heavy and dense. Holds my MDC Rose.

That’s a nice bowl Tom, and fit for mdc for sure.
I may chop off enough for a brush handle, that blank may have enough to squeeze a couple pen blanks as well. Hope to see lots of refraction and character once finished.
Will see how it turns.
It’s always interesting to see what you can do with a nice piece of wood Mike.
Also, that is a very nice bowl Tom.
Way back in '73 I bought a 17 jewel Caravelle Pocket Watch for $75. Years later I made the mistake of opening up the back and front to show my 10 year old daughter the thing in action with the gears and all.
I wasn't using it on a daily basis so I put it back in the jewelry box. The next time I got it out--------------all of the hands were missing and some damage to the numbers on the face had been done. :gaah:
I didn't say a word and just put it away.
Well during my stay with Joel (Benz here at SRP) he mentioned that he used a master watch maker when his precision dial tools needed worked on. So once I got home I sent him the watch to have the guy take a look at.
I guess she really did a job when she was messing with the watch especially the shaft that the second hand runs off--but after much searching for OEM parts it landed here at the Boars Nest.

I found the bill very reasonable--$155 and that included shipping with $400 of insurance.
On Joel's advice I'll be making a protective pouch from some very thin and soft sheepskin leather I have here 'someplace'. :w
Awesome save and worth every penny Roy!
