You may have found a great deal. Crossing my fingers the FBU is not rusted-up too badly as it looks like a black shadow, but your right. It could be a great find. Could be plenty of other good razors there for restoring and building your collection too. Good luck and let us know.
-
I saw that W&B, but I wasn't sure about the condition of the blade and forgot about it. Hope it is in good shape, Paul!
-
Yeah, I was a little unsure myself. When the pictures are that sketchy and the description is that vague a lot is left unknown. I blew them up as much as possible but it was still not certain. Still, at $17 per I figured that there were enough other restorable ones there to make it worth while even if that one is a bust. No guts no glory right?

I’ve gotten quite a few really great blades from large lots, containing mostly bad razors, and a few from misspelled ads. Currently I have far too many and my todo pile is silly, and my other project list is long. I’m glad some are still able to scour for bargains.
-
I'm actually there too Shaun. I have far too many projects to be bargain hunting. I guess I'm like the coyote in the chicken coop; I just can't stop myself. They say the first step is admitting you have a problem. "Hi, I'm Paul and I have RAD."
-
Let me help you guys out. I will volunteer to take most of your project razors off your hands just to help knock your to-do pile down a bit.
Trust me when I say I will get around to fixing them someday as my to-do pile is just half a coffee cup full at the moment. :rofl2:

Well that lot came in today and here is the FBU
Attachment 340460
No cracks, no pits, no chips. It is a reground wedge now a bellied hollow.
Attachment 340461
Just a hair over 8/8.
Not really crazy about the shape of the toe so I might reshape that some
Attachment 340462
Not bad for $17.
-
Not a bad regrind to save, but I thought you said almost 240 for the lot.
Maybe your wife will believe that $17 bit, but those of us here,,,,,,, we are big picture people Paul.
Hehe.
Good luck with the restore, they are worth it, although I’d leave that toe work till everything else is true.
You may reconsider.
Cheers,

Thanks Mike and nice segway for me into the rest of the story. Not that I didn't pay attention to anything but the FBU but I certainly was focused on it. I did see that there were some other worthy pieces but the pictures were not very good so that too was uncertain. Turns out the FBU is not even the best one. There was this Freddie "Magnetic"
Attachment 340463
a T. Noonan & Sons Black Demon
Attachment 340464
a George Johan with a nice etch. Looks like the camel's were gold washed at one time
Attachment 340465
a fabulous Böker, also with a nice etch but inlayed scales to boot.
Attachment 340466
Actually there are a couple of nice Bökers...and a number of other nice ones including some 7/8 plus singing hollows but the one I'm most excited about is this Joseph Allen & Sons Non X L L Master Razor.
Attachment 340467
This was a great lot with many easy restores. None are broken, only one broken scale, the only real rust is this one spot on a notched Freddie
Attachment 340468
Can't wait to get started with them!

That’s a nice haul for the price, no doubt!
Have fun with those, lots worth saving..
