Hot DANG!!! The elusive 6 inch(or larger) calico/motttled Washita. I would love if it were thicker but I'm thrilled just to have this one.

Not bad, dead flat right out of the box. Never seen a Brookstone labeled stone before. No telling who actually made it but probably Smith's. Only used a little, still has the stamp on the side.

I'll lose that fairly soon. After a thorough cleaning with Goop Off and a soak in Simple Green and water then a lapping it is fading already. C'est la vie. Stones are a tool to use, not to admire. Here's after a cleaning and lapping.

I think I was more excited about this one than I was about my Dan's 8 inch black. I've been searching for one this size or bigger for a coon's age. I've got several smaller one's but I've spent literally years looking for one this size. They're next to impossible to find. I was starting to feel like I was chasing El Dorado.
Funny thing is these were considered inferior to the No 1 and Lily White when they were in production but they are far superior yo any other novaculite stone for bevel set. In fact, in my mind, they are what makes a full Ark progression feasible. Even with a rough lapped No1 it isn't really practical.
I was going to bid on that. But I didn't know if that was as good brand.
I got some mystery stones to resurface coming might be ark stones might be naturals. Whatever they are if the don't work for razors probably will work for my butcher knives lol Attachment 354149 Attachment 354150
After my last camping trip I was just not satisfied with camping saws. I have tried many and they just fall short. We typically will cut logs anywhere from 8-10" around for splitting into firewood.
I bought two saws, one smaller one with a Champion tooth pattern 22" long and one 36" Champion tooth one man crosscut saw but comes with a handle for another person on the other end or an assist for the sawyer.
Of course I needed gauges for both to file them. I could use one gauge for both but then would have to adjust each time one was used. Aquisition disorder for old cool things prevailed :)
Had to tune up the gauges first then onto the big saw!

That one pulls double duty. If I had a small saw I would need one but my eyes are not good enough for my finish carpentry saws.Quote:

I haven’t used a big hand saw for a long time. Typically just rely on the husky these days.
I bought this one in a junk shop in San Augustine when I was in my early 20's. Man, is it sharp!

My Dad had a bunch of those he got with the sharpening equiptment he bought. We used to use them when I was a kid. It's harder than you'd think to coordinate two men on one saw. It's pretty amazing what you can do with it though. We cut up a big tree once that fell with a big two-man like Tom's and it made pretty short work of it.
Boy that brings back memories.
