Thanked: 1184Pre Duck and Duck
Spotted this razor and had to have it. I have a few Ducks as many of you know and grabbed a few pre Duck Bresnik razors along the way. I always wondered what Pearlson was doing before he met Bresnik and now I know. Does the address on the tang look familiar ?
Going to lose what's left of the gold etch which reads First Class with some fancy scrolling.
And as much as I hate to admit it the scales look like they may have to go also. I will leave it as it is in quarantine for awhile but as you can see it may need to go into ICU for a full custom restore. I hate to because of what it is but saving the blade is better than finding it looking like a sieve someday.

Thanked: 1184Then.......
After swearing off any purchases for awhile this shows up cheap enough :<0)
Just a tad over 13/16 ths a non brass Satinedge. I haven't measured the scales yet but I don't think they are as big as my 8/8 Satinedge. The blade is in great shape and although used the hone wear is minimal. I think it was a 7/8 at 1 time.
I went over it with Blue Magic and the green came out of the lettering ,which I don't really think was painted in. Aside from that the raised lettering is in perfect shape. Needs a full clean and hone and that's it. Got lucky on this one.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Looks like you have a taste for duck, 10pups.
That's a really neat razor. Is the logo on the scales and tang a lion?

10pups I have been really looking hard at all different brands of straights. I like the styles of several. But the more I see of the Ducks you post the more I REALLY like them. Not in my beginner budget but eventually I think I will own one. Keep them coming. If the pocketbook allows lol.

I wouldn't automatically assume it's a pre duck Pearlson. My understanding was that Pearlson worked for Bresnick and took over the business and moved to the Jamaica address. Also none of the DDs made under Pearlson have the address on them. Only the Beau Brummels have the address. I suspect pearlson sold many brands and he probably had his own for a time. Who knows? All lost to time. I've seen some other Pearlson branded razors. They are out there.
My only regret is I walked right past that store probably 100 times and never went in. If I only knew then what I do now eh?No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I hope that Pearlking turns out to be alright. In the event that the original scales have to go using the original scale inlay is something some of the custom restore guys do. Perhaps, with you skills, you also could do it, or send it out to someone who can. One way or the other, some nice stuff, an 8/8 or a 7/8 duck is a rara avis for sure.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1184Well Spendur we are going to have to chat about all this someday. I did jump to the assume. I am really interested in the story of these 2 guys. I have heard you say many times "nobody knows for sure" but I keep thinking there are stories out there to be told by some that know. We all talk about RAD but I have a rare case called DAD (Duck Acquisition Disorder) I would call it DDAD but it sounds like I am stuttering :<0)
Jimmy this thing would already be apart and new scales on it but I am going to do some serious planning before I move a molecule on it. I have done some brass transfers. I have 1 I have stopped on because the brass fell apart when the acetone hit it. I didn't know it was that bad or I would have tried something else.
This came on a Blue Jinx Dubl Duck that was toast. It was in a small pile sold as a lot. I had another Blue Jinx with bad scales but perfect blade. I think I am going to have to put this together under a microscope with tweezers. Just waiting for the right day when I am 100% sure I can pull it off. (It's a mode thing)
Where it's going eventually.

That's a fine looking 8/8 10Pups, I never knew they made them that big, gorgeous.
Funny you posted this, stumbled on this the other day, it was sold awhile ago for $1500, a NOS DD 8/8+...it's one of the nicest razors I've seen, beautiful!
