Certainly a lot of the Sheffield cutlers produced framebacks, and some of them went out of their way to make them look nice. In fact, ScienceGuy has one of the coolest I've seen.
Sheesh, think I'm going to have this thread framed and hang it in my bathroom, some really beautiful razors here, thank-you!

Voidmonster, just checked it out, what a stunning razor, I love everything about it...thanks for pointing it out!

Since you 'owned it at one time' perhaps you can fill me in on what you might know about it's origins?

Unfortunately I don't have that information, though as you say it does look a lot like the Elliot framebacks. Here's the early Greaves I have for comparison as well:

My Grandfather was from Heilbronn. If either of you gentlemen ever think of parting with one of those razors I'd like the opportunity to meet your price, even though I probably won't be able to afford it.

My my my... We got some beautiful razors here !

    Some french guys :

    1819

    Around 1815 - 1825

    1845

They were not too used because they were told to be of a less good quality than the normal type of razors. I read an old french document who said, like Martin did, that was because cutlers only put together a thin untreated piece of steel and a back, so the quality wasn't good.

It also said that the first ones who succeeded to make a large production of framebacks of good and constant quality were swedish.

The second one is not mine.

I could have bought it, but it was a little expensive for me at the time, and the friend who had it sold it to someone else.

I like the razors who have some historical interest, like some of the members of the SRP, and I'm always keen on Scienceguy's razors !

I couldn't agree more! Folks like You, Science Guy, and Zak (Voidmonster), Martin, and many others, have exhibited some stunning examples of razor 'History' throughout the threads here on SRP, and I always enjoy reading these. To say I am envious is an understatement...I have a keen interest in unique and old razors wrapped in history, but my collection pales in comparison.

I never fail to learn something new whenever you guys post...

    Kudos!
