first razor of this type
I won this one off the bay and it had a broken scale on the back side. I made a new set out of coreion (can't spell worth a flip) anyway the scale turned out ok not spectacular but for now I can use it. I honed it tonight and will try it Saturday. it's a George Wostenholm and son they said it was a 13/16 but doesn't look like it had to much wear. I believe it's what is called a frameback maybe. anyway my honing skills are not the best but it will cut the HH with out any trouble. anyway wish me luck.

That's a very nice blade from a renowned manufacturer, alongside Wade and Butcher, J Elliot and J Rodgers.
That's what could be called a faux frameback, I believe, beautiful blade and a great find!

'Very handsome blade & what can be seen from the photo would suggest a nicely done set of scales. Of the Sheffields, I've liked the Wostys alot - though I'm not a sheffield guy. They're handsome & well made. That particular one is very handsome. 'Not a real frameback - which would have a separate piece of steel set into a channel cut into the spine. The grace of the shoulderless lines & the Sheffield spine and 'notch are what makes it so handsome to me. Enjoy that lovely razor.

Fine looking specimen.
Sheffield steel seems to be a love hate thing here.
I do enjoy it and the frame backs and faux frame backs are a different experience IMO.
I do enjoy them a very crisp clean shave, this is not to say the blade cannot be smooth but the feed back is different to me anyways.
Great find and I am sure you will appreciate its individual qualities. It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

I must apologize for the unintentional misleading. those are the scales it came with. the photo is of the side that was not broken. the scales I made are off white kind of a faux ivory and as soon as I set the light box up again I will put a photo of it as it is now . again I apologize. I did shave with it today and it does shave well. the feel is not that of a Wade and Butcher diamond edge or any of the other wedges or near wedges I have but from the size of the blade and weight it gave a good shave. when I honed it I used 1K-3K-8K-and the 12K naniwa SS. after honing I gave it 50 laps on linen and then 200 laps on leather. I use the English bridle leather from SRD. I know the shave is the finial test but the other way was to take one of the hair from my wifes brush (since i'm bold as a pealed onion ) hold it hanging down and cut from the bottom up. it did well. when I honed it I did use one layer of tape. don't know that much about angles but didn't want to scratch up the blade. I kind of like the way it looks. I believe even though it's not a Wade and Butcher i'll add it to my collection.

That type is considered a 'rattler' grind. They shave very nicely. You should enjoy it!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
