    Default Catch of the day!

Scored a Kinsfolks wedge and Joseph Allen NonXLL blade for $18.50 shipped!

Any idea's recommendations as to scales for the XLL? I'd actually like something a little flashy(but not obnoxious) to stand out from all my vintage black scaled razors.

    Thanks for reading.
    Have a great day!

nice score, love those good deals! I like paua lvs, g10, and mokume scales, not sure if that's too "obnoxious" though?

Nice snag. I would look at the honey horn or possibly G-10 for scale material (the middle three pictures above are great examples of G10).
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Second vote for honey horn - the translucency should make a nice contrast to the opaque and solid black scales you already have.

Wow, the G10 looks like a winner to me. Can someone recommend a good source? How is it to work with?
    Thanks again!

Masecraft has a lot of it...... and it's supposedly a bear to work with. Really tough stuff. I haven't used it myself as I am only starting my scale making efforts but do a search on the forum and you will find some good info.

I like to buy G10 from masecraft supply, but they have a minimum order of $50 or so. The G10 can be easy to work, though stiffer than a lot of other materials. shapes easy enough with files and sandpaper but not easy to cut by hand. i prefer power tools up to the finishing stages when i use it. in solid colors its easy to get 1/16" sheets but the multicolor like the ones above I only find minimum of 1/8" which is a bit too much for scales. so either you thin the 1/8" by at least 25% or so or leave it a little thicker and contour the inside to allow room for the tang and such. easiest is go for the 1/16", works for a lot of razors. I don't like too g10 that thin on something like a wedge with more mass though, just not balanced right. If you don't like thought of spending that much send me a pm and ill hook you up with something from my stock.
