Default Newbieb and First Straight Razor

Hello all, decided at 62 to try and use a straight razor. Have gone from double edge through single edge cartridges and every goofy multi blade combo since I started shaving. Trying to get back to basics. I went back to a double edge safety razor and shaving soap and brush instead of the can of foaming goo. Just got my first straight razor from Larry at Whipped Dog. Nice guy, by the way. I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. Got the Poor Man's Strop Kit as well

Here she is. I don't know much about them, so if anyone can offer insight into this razor, it'd be appreciated.

Looking forward to learning as I go

    Thanks

I don't know anything about the razor but the upturned heel and toe should make for a comfortable shave. The curved spine looks nice too.

Welcome to SRP. I started almost a year ago at 80. Old dogs and new tricks keep you young and active. I am enjoying the ride, the ritual, the sometimes mystery of why it worked (or didn't) straight razor shaving (interspersed with a DE, an SE, and a shavette as the face dictates on occasion).

You didn't go wrong with Whipped Dog. Be sure to read all the pertinent wiki's and as a lot of questions - we like to answer them. In about seven months start thinking about learning to refresh your edges on a barbers hone or similar. I'm coming up on a year and have finally bitten the bullet and am starting to learn how to hone my razors from bevel to shave ready. This after learning the map of my face and avoiding 99% of irritation. Learned along the way what I am reactive to in soap/cream ingredients and that I get a hell of a better shave with cold water as opposed to hot. Your journey will reveal a lot about yourself you didn't even know.

    Welcome again.

Another thought. You indicated that you seem to shift between Virginia and Florida. As such, you should check and see if you will be near JB Horen or Hiralu and try to get together with one of them. They can do a one on one with you and give you more practical experience than all the reading and videos can. I even bought a couple of really great razors from JB.
