    Default A gift from Dad

This is a little self indulgent but I just had to share this news.
Recently I was visiting with my parents for a weekend and spoke to by Dad for some time about Straight Razors and how much enjoyment I got from restoring and shaving with them. He seemed to be very interested in the Frederick Reynolds I had brought with me for the weekend.

My Dad (now 80 years old) had owned several razors many years ago, which he tells me he got from a local barber whenever they bought new razors for the shop. Most of them were Gotta razors. Dad was really surprised what a good Gotta can sell for these days. Those razors were sold soon after he returned from the Vietnam War to make way for the new breed electric razors.

Then dad disappears for a few minutes and comes back and presents me with this nice looking box. To my great surprise it contains a nice shaving brush and bowl with the original soap still inside - I was blown away this was so totally unexpected. The origins of the box are a little cloudy in his memory, but Mum says it was presented to him as a gift for services rendered at some time during his armed services career.

Here are some pics to share.

Thank you for sharing - always great to see a hand-over from one generation to the next, especially when it's done in person.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I got this kit out today for my morning shave. The soap took a little while to get a good lather going but once I had it, the shave was quite good. The lather gave good cushion and the blade (a Le Grelot 5/8") seemed to glide easily on my face. The brush probably needs some more frequent use to get the best from it. It feels like it's a badger brush and has a plastic handle. The stamp on it says West Germany, Best Quality, Sterilized. I will try for a better photo of the brush later tonight. I look forward to several more shaves with this brush and learning to get the best from the soap - brand unknown.
