    Default "Stand by your mailbox" the email said.

    The email was from Sharpton. Always have had problems with being told what to do, so I took my lawn chair out to edge of the road and lounged by the mailbox. Couple of days later, a package arrived!! It was from Sharpton. Folded up my lawn chair, cleaned up all the empty beer bottles and pizza boxes and headed inside. Figured it was safe to leave the mailbox at this time.

    Opened up the package and there was a beautifully scrawled note on what looked to be the remains of greasy napkin with the cryptic instructions of "Let me know how it shaves!"

    Unrolled about two miles of tape and bubble wrap. I cast my eyes on such that I NEVER seen before! There it lay in all it's grandeur!

    I picked it up and it felt like it weighed half a pound. Waved it around, made a few practice cuts like I was attacking a zombie. Felt pretty natural. Upon closer inspection I was truly and utterly amazed at that blade AND the edge it had on it.......

    The detail was AMAZING!

    Was a bit leery of shaving with it though....

    Soooooooo ???? How hard was it to hone ? What brush did you use ? How drunk did you have get to work up the nerve :<0)

    Wait a minute....Is that a steak knife ?

    Had my convictions confirmed when it didn't shave worth a damn.

    Dug around in the box a bit more unwrapped another thousand yards of tape and bubble wrap and found this;

    Some of the neatest leather work I've seen. Inside it was this;

    One piece deer antler scales. It's a sweetheart and I'm not a fan of full hollows but that baby is sweet.
    Tom had that thing honed up to where it was like a "LASER" on three days of stubble built up lounging by the mail box.

    That other thing is a patch knife. Blade looks like it's a forged blank that was never finish ground.

    THANKS TOM!

    I apologize for not posting this sooner, but I've had computer issues with my photo editing.

    HA! I suppose I shoulda honed the patch knife too. Did not know you would do anything but put it with your black powder stuff!
    The old bone razor had a Wade and Butcher toothpick in it, so I scrubbed and polished the scales, replaced the blade, and took it home to test. Great litttle shaver! It reminded me of an old rifle in a scabbard, so naturally, Willie came to mind!
    I had intended to give you the patch knife at our meet, but plumb forgot. I think it was made a Looooong time ago.
    Nice to find them good homes. Enjoy, Wullie! (don't cut yerself!)

    I rest my case.

    The patch knife is in the "possible bag" with my BP stuff. I think you're right about it being made a long time ago. Haven't seen a tang set with lead like that on anything made in the last 50 years. Whoever made it knew his stuff, that's for sure.

    Thanks again!

    Sharpton ran it over the rocks so he can tell you how it honed.

    All I can say about is that after Tom got through with it, it's a whisker blasting SOB and smooth as silk.

    Handles very nicely with those home made scales too.
