    Default 4 razors!

These are the first two that started me off! I got them from my Great Uncle's house after he passed away; the Gottlieb Hammesfahr (black handle) had a nick in the edge and the Magnetosteel had a crack near the toe. I did some research and learned how to remove the chip, so I worked on that first. Also got a Richmond 6/8 SR from chefknivestogo, but the steel seems too soft and the fine edge crumbles away. Too bad because I liked the size of the blade! Oh well, at least it was cheap! I also fixed the toe of the magnetosteel by grinding is back. Both have been used to shave with and can now tree top arm hairs after a few honing attempts!!

Then I went on EBAY and found 2 from Cedrick Smythe! First is a Landers, Frary and Clark:

2nd is a Findlay Roberts near wedge:

Going to rehandle the Findlay, debating what materials to use currently.

I think those scale look salvageable. They don't look bad at all.

They are all fully functional, but I like a little bling to my blades! The bigger blade feels great in the hand, so I want to pretty it up a bit!

There are a lot of nice woods out there for making scales. Here is one site that sell scale blanks I have personally bought from a couple of times that have decent prices and they have always treated me right; Unique Knife Handle Supplies, Salvaged Domestic & Hard To Find Exotics, Burls, Spalts & Figures

Also a lot of nice acrylics are available too plus G10, micarta, horn, imitation ivory just to name a few. If you do a little research you will find scale blanks at fair prices.

Take a look at some of the blades guys on this site under 'Show and Tell' have done. You can use originals for patterns or design your own, you are only limited by your imagination and skill set..........

I live 30 minutes away from Masecraft Supply, so I go there and get materials occasionally! For me, the problem is picking the material. I have some nice stabilized curly Koa and claro walnut coming in, plus boxes of stabilized wood, Micarta and I have dabbled in my own micarta like scales.

Picking what material I want for a given razor drives me crazy. I think that is one of the reasons if the originals are in at least fair condition I leave them one except to maybe give the blade a good cleaning.

What is the blade size on the magneto? It looks like it's huge.

As for the re-handle job, wood is very nice... Depending on what you can get but even pine with a stain can come up very nice. I'd love to get some cherry for one of my next ones.
