Default Tell people you like razors!

My wife and I Like to go over with our children to see my mother and stepfather, we like to go over weekly and have a cup of tea and a few sandwiches, and I just happened to mention that I had taken a keen interest in straight razors, my mother looked over to me with interest and said “cut throat razors?”
This is how the conversation went:
Mother: Have I ever showed you your grandfather’s razors?
    Me: what razors
    Mother: your grandfather’s razors
    Me: No, what razors
    Mother: There in a box
    Me: Go get them
Mother: There is four or them in a box
    Me: Go get them
Mother: I think he used them in the war
    Me: Go get the razors
Mother: I think there is a safety razor up there too?
Me: Please mum, go and get the razors
Stepfather: I have some straight razors upstairs as well, they were my grandfather’s
Me: PLEASE GO GET THE RAZORS!!!!

Needless to say, 30 minutes later I’m on the way home with some new additions to the collection and a very very big smile! Yes I can accept there is some cleaning up to be done, but very happy with my new gifts.

    Hi REZDog,

I had no idea that it was a rigging tool! apparently my grandmother gave it to me when I was a child and my mother took it from me as she thought I was a little too young to have a knife! I know my grandmothers brother was in the navy years ago, but would not know if all the dates match or anything. I have no idea when that type of tool was used??

Just telling people I am into razors has netted me several. People love to give nice things away or sell them at reasonable prices and are just waiting for someone to appreciate them.

It is for splicing line and untying knots as well as the obvious blade for general cutting. The spiky looking thing is a fid or a marlin spike depending on who you are talking to.

    Great story!

I had mentioned to a couple of friends I was into straight razors. So in the span of two weeks, three friends gave me three Gillette adjustable safety razors, two fat boys and one slim. Two were still in the original plastic cases.

They just figured they were old and gave them to me. Aside from a little dirt, gave them a good soak in barbicide for ten minutes and cleaned them up with some toothpaste and they work perfectly....popped a blade and watched the mechanism raise and lower the blade.

Have yet to try one, they aren't "old" to me...

Always great to hear that another family treasure is going to get a new lease on life. I'm sure all of use would like to know that our sons or grandsons or nephews will be using one our ours years from now.

If you get a chance post more pics and details, including the riggers knife.

    Thanks for sharing.

Awesome score a mixed 7 day set of heirloom razors
Don't bother with the lotto tickets you have already won
Once cleaned up you would have no need to look for another razor again
Leaves you with the other ADs you get exploited by still LOL

yes we were issued those knives in the US Navy as well. Like RezDog said,,,, blade is for cutting, spike is for knots. I lost track of mine but I'm very sure whoever handed it down to you is smiling right now....that knife spent alot of time in your family members pocket going around the globe! cherish it.
