Thanked: 1185Score!!
So I stroll into one of my local thrift stores, look immediately to my right and there it is, The Greek Guard scuttle. Naturally I was quite excited to find a scuttle in a thrift store and for only $12. I then proceeded to check the rest of the place for the usual suspects (Sperry Topsiders, saftety and or straight razors, nice hats etc) but only came up to the register with the scuttle and a couple books.
When I got to the register I casually said to the lady, "Found my treasure for the day. These are getting harder to find, not many people shave like this anymore."
"There's another one back in the back by the salt shakers did you see that one?" she replied. "It's got horses on it."
Naturally she had my undivided attention and I told her to stand by while I went to get that one too. Sure enough it was right where she said it would be. So yeah, I'm pretty pleased with my results today. Two scuttles total cost about $18. Now to go test drive one

Cool finds. In the bottom photo, is that a groove on top of the handle to hold the brush?

Thanked: 1184I find cool stuff in mine sometimes but not THAT cool.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1185This is by no means standard for me either. I just had an unusually good day. Last weekend I went to a Flea Market I hadn't been to in ages. Over the years I had scored probably half my collection of vintage straights from a guy at this flea market. He said he wanted $15 but after he figured out I was a regular customer I could usually get him down to $10 (we're talking Torrey's, Boker's, Shumates just good old school straights.) However, last weekend when I stopped by, he had "upgraded" his straight razor inventory with Chinese and Pakastani crap for $65-$80 a pop. Thanks but no.
