    Default J. Gibbins & Sons

Just received this very nice J.Gibbins & Sons the other day from over the pond
beautiful razor all dreesed up in an Ivory coat
looks like a pewter or silver wedge

thought I was gonna have to polish it up etc but I only gave it a coat of ren wax & honed it up last night & shaved with it this morning.

very nice shave so I think I might have a new contender for favourite.

can't find much info on it but hey for under $50 USD delivered to Aus
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA I am laughing

Thanks Pix the scales & blade in general feel great
it has a nice weight & balance to it
I think it may be heavier than the horn scales of similar or thicker size
this is my first fully shaveable ivory scaled razor & even SWMBO thinks this is my nicest razor yet,
then asks why I hav'nt gotten more ivory razors - Price dear price
now thats saying something so she might be comming around LOL it has only taken a year.
but as soon as the posty comes she's like "have you bought more blades again" LOL
damn you ivory trading legislation changes
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

That's a great razor! I think I agree with you about the wedge: it does look shinier than lead and pewter is probably more likely than sterling silver. The blade won't be stainless as it's way before the period when SS came into use. I've noticed that old, well-patinated or even mirror polished blades seem to resist rust fairly well as long as they're kept dry.

Seriously there is no patina at all on the blade and has no signs of a restore
It is as clean as my pics just don't do it justice
It doesn't have even the light grey tinge in colour you yet with fully polished carbon steel
It has the silver tone of stainless
If it is carbon I would love to know how it was stored for so long to keep in NOS condition without the box
So I could use it for all my blades
    Saved,
    to shave another day.
