Thread: H & J.W. King New York Straight Razor

Being born and raised here, I've tried to get a NYC-area blade for awhile to no avail. I have a few Brooklyn ones, but never NY till now. H & J. W. King that was from Beekman Street downtown from me. It is clearly Sheffield in origin, but it has no british markings. Interesting profile for a Sheffield blade, does anyone know of a sheffield maker that used this basic profile at all? To quote Simple Jack the condition of the scales makes my eyes rain. At least the lead wedge is still there. This is going to be a real pig to hone as well, I can just tell. Anyone have one of these?

A big part of it is that it is warped.

I've got a couple of kings.
This one looks like a W&B and has a 596 Broadway address


The other has the Beekman address and is almost as worn and warped as yours.

This is one that Max restored for me . it shaves great.

OP, there has been discussion on King in the past. Best I recall, he was an importer. I would imagine he got his goods from several different source and perhaps from teh ones that had the best price at the time.

waiting until it gets here. I had one that was a H & JW King . this one says it's a K & J W King.
