Thanked: 3225Mappin Brothers Queens Cutlery Works
Found this one locally and took pity on it. Poor thing was heavily stained, a small crack in the ivory scales at the wedge pin off side and ugly hone wear. The blade might have been 6/8 new but is now 11/16 tapering to less at the toe. What can I say, it was a Mappin Brothers and it was local. Anyway gave it a light cleaning to see what I had preparatory to honing it. I wasn't too disappointed. I am guessing because it is stamped Mappin Brothers it was made sometime between 1848 and 1859. That is if I read the info on Manah's site STRAZORS.com - all about classic razors - Mappin Brothers/Mappin & Webb, Sheffield. correctly. Please correct me if I have made a mistke dating it.

Good sheffield steel never disappoints. Did you repair the ivory scales?

Some crazy glue will do the trick. I'm sure it will be a fine shaver when it's all honed up.

Thanked: 3225Just about had a stroke trying to hone this one up. It was one of those blades that needed a lot of playing around with. Would you believe 3 layers of tape and still a wide bevel? Worth the effort in the end though, did a test shave which was very pleasing. Into rotation it goes.
