Don't forget about an initial lapping of each stone and I always do a quick lap on each stone between razors, a DMT 325 is what I use. If your pockets are inside out from all your hone purchases some wet/dry sandpaper and a flat surface will always work. Lapping the stones will make a huge difference in the results IMO, I found out the hard way, HAPPY HONING!

I had never honed a razor before in my life, and my first purchase was as follows, all in one shot:
    DMT 325C
    Shapton Glass 1K,4K,8K,16K
    Stone holder device

This was before I had ever honed. I know have added a Chosera 1K, and a few naturals (specifics are irrelevant).

Bottom line is that I bought what I wanted, and these should last a lifetime. I have honed probably 100 or more razors on these stones now, for myself and for others. Others have been very complimentary of the edges I have put on razors.

And to think.....it all started with me buying some hones that I never needed, or shouldn't have ever bought having never honed before I'm glad I get to buy what makes me happy with my money...
