Recent eBay find, double bladed straight razor, just got it!!!
I was on eBay late one night & came across this double bladed razor with bone scales. One of the blades has London etched on it & the other has a fancy etching. They both say Warranted Cast Steel on them so I don't know the exact date it could be. I have looked up Warranted Cast Steel in my Goins Encyclopedia but nothing. If I look up Cast Steel Warranted, that dates back to 1816. The scales are cracked & one blade has a couple of chips in it. I think it is a very cool razor!!! I WAS going to make new scales for it & have it honed but I have decided against it which is why I have edited my post here.

Very rare I'm told, Phil at the ClassicEdge told me about these, and that he had been looking for one like this for ages...this is only the second one of these I've seen.
Awesome find, can't wait for Neil, Voidmonster and ScienceGuy to lay some history to these blades. I'd try and save those scales, with something this rare, I'd send it to a professional restorer, the scales, the complete package, seems to me to be highly unique and rare.
They look great, superb find on your part! Congrats!

Thanked: 4821They are french. My french is awful, but here goes. It is a papillon, which is french for butterfly. The razor is as the name implies french. That is the end of what I know. I believe there were many makers. It is a shame about the one side of the scales. They look super cool but may not be that easy to shave with.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thank you Phrank. The scales are actually not in that bad of shape except for the broken piece & the crack. It still opens & closes just fine. I think the one blade may have gotten chipped when not being closed with care. I couldn't believe I found it & I was the only bidder on it. I think I will leave it alone unless instructed to do so by some senior members.
