I have a helberg faux frameback with a brass spine, i know that the spine in mine used to be chromed, or plated with some silver coloured coating, i received it as is, but the previous owner told me about it. i tape its spine because the spine is worn, i should try and make it a new one like glen did in one of his threads.
I also thought about making a sacrificial spine for use when honing.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I've seen a Wosty frame back but not like that one! Great catch! I have one similar but not brass frame back.

With all due respect Ed, I'm pretty sure it's not a "faux" frameback if the spine is a separate piece of metal, that's just a regular frameback.
I think razors with a rattler grind is what people are usually referring to when they say faux frameback.

Yes, i dont really know, i thought a proper frameback had the spine fixed to the tang, and a removable/seperate thiner blade. If that is the case my faux frameback is no longer faux, i think it will be pleased to be recognised for what it is rather than what it was pretending to be
I have tried to work it out before, but i could never really determine a decent explanation of the difference, but calling a rattler a faux frameback does make senseBread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Yes, considering how little it went for, 45cents under my max bid which was a token bid on my part while I tried to get the seller to get rid of the Global Shipping. A couple hours left in the auction an he still couldn't figure it out and asked me if I could change it on my end
I had given up on it TBO.Than ≠ Then

Honing that without tape should be considered a criminal act.
