Wade & Butcher FBU square point
Just bought this Wade & Butcher FBU with a square point on ebay. It looks like it's in very nice condition and the square point looks original as I don't think the blade has been shortened. The ad said that it's a 7/8 wide blade. I have a feeling it's a little bit bigger than 7/8. I will see if my feeling is right when it arrives. I'm planning to keep it all original. Just want to clean up the scales, polish the blade a little bit and hone this chopper.

Very nice. The scales are in good shape, I love that shape, and those washers are excellent.

It could be that the razor has been made a couple of mm shorter. But still, I love that shape of the tip. As long as it has been shortened properly it will be allright.

It was reground from a wedge long ago. As they got thinner, the barber's notches were pretty much done, so some were square-pointed by the grinder, winding up shorter. Best shavers ever.
I have 2 which have been reground from wedges to different levels. This one has been lightly reground so that the notch remains.
Shaved with it this morning. Silly sharp and smooth. The shorty one was reground super-thin. It was given a more rounded-point. I shortened the scales at the top. It sings like a bird!Last edited by sharptonn; 08-30-2014 at 05:17 PM.

It looks a little shorter to me by looking at the spine. It definitely looks shorter closed in the scales! I could be wrong though.

I am certain you are right. It is! The grinders freehanded this work, I think. The ends probably got ground thin as to leverage, I feel. The barber's notches had to go.
Hence we see lots of the old wedge ones with regrinds, no barber's notches, and scales seeming too long. The more the grinder got carried away, the shorter they got, I suppose!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I have nine FBU's.....................well, one of them is a Barbers Rattler. It's a near wedge with a barbers notch!
