Place your bets... Greaves razor from eBay
Found and bought a Greaves razor from eBay. Pictures suggest there's excessive hone wear and perhaps a chip in the blade as well.
The price was decent so I took a punt. Im having it shipped directly to gssixgun for evaluation for restoration.
What do you think? Was I perhaps lucky or will I be returning to the seller (the seller described as good condition so am relying on PayPal policy)
Would love to hear your thoughts, will post gssixgun's report on the condition once he receives and has time to evaluate.
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

For the price for two blades, think you did very well...I think the Greave's are fantastic razors, never seems to be enough of them! Worst that happens is you struck out, which you were prepared for, otherwise, you're getting a great, fantastic piece of history!
Nice find!

Yes, I know this was definitely a punt, hence the poll, place your bets. Could go either way I think.
I can't even tell what the 2nd razor is.It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

I think it will be a keeper unless there is a major issue that can't be seen in the pics. just might end up needing some special attention while honing. I have a greaves that i have to make some new scales for and i will be using.

I think she can be saved.
I have to say I don't agree with the ship it back. You saw the pics, you state that you know its a chance. Youve made your bed, now well see if You sleep in it.

Looks like excessive hone wear at the toe but you can still use it for your lifetime.

Thanked: 884I've got some with wear like that, I didn't set out to buy 'em that way. They came in with purchases of several other razors and the price was right, so it wasn't a deal killer for me.
Tape the spine and hone it. It'll still shave like it was meant to.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.
