    Default William Jackson, G. Nixon

Finally got this one in after some delay. I haven't had time to research it yet, but will get there soon. William Jackson, Philadelphia near Sheffield. I *think* it is VR stamped, but looking at the top left of the V, it could be a WR that missed the surface, though the blade shape I think suggests later. It is in great condition, and the etching is wonderful.

It looks more like a V which would represent Queen Victoria. The VR stands for Victoria Regina if I remember right.

It does, but it is sometimes the case that for a WR stamp, the die was misaligned and the other half of the 'W' missed, generally when the point of it falls on the edge of an angle.

Very nice razor. I have seen tang stamps that were cut off because of the angle so it could be a WR. Hopefully someone with some info on a date might help figure out which it is.

If it's the William Jackson of Ashton & Jackson it would be a "VR" since they began in 1841 and then became William Jackson & Co. in 1851.

I think it's traced to this Philadelphia, a village about a mile from Sheffield ("Philadelphia near Sheffield"):

If it was a WR, the crown would be more centered with those letter designations but it is much more centered with the VR.
