Thanked: 10Grandfather's Razors
About two years ago while helping my Dad clean out my grandmother's house he showed me a razor that had belonged to my grandfather. It was an open comb style safety razor. He asked me if I wanted it. At the time I was still using the disposable cartridge razors and quite frankly that crusty old razor scared the heck out of me and I turned it down. Now that I have started using a safety razor I remembered that day and was curious as to what had happened to that razor. I asked my Dad about it thinking it had probably been trashed and he said he still had it. This past weekend he came over to my house and surprised me with a bag full of old razors, all of which had belonged to my grandfather. Included was a Lauterjuhng and Sohns Puma straight razor, an Autostrop Valet and Schick Eversharp injector SE razors and two Gillette safety razors one a safety bar style and the infamous open comb razor. The safety razors all seem to be in decent shape, just need a good cleaning and they should be ready to use. The Puma is a bit rusty and will require a bit more work, may even need some professional help on that one. I am looking forward to getting these old razors cleaned up and using them. Even thinking about building a display case to show them off in.

Despite the rust, I am pretty sure that puma will clean up nicely and take a great edge. That is a very early puma, should be around 100 years old.

Thanked: 10Thanks guys, will post more pics after cleanup. As for the age of the puma I was guessing about 100 years. The box has what I believe to be German writing. My grandfather did serve in WWI, and spent time in Germany post war. Possibly could have come from then.

Thanked: 10Far from showroom shine, but these razors cleaned up pretty good. Not sure if I really want to put much more of a polish on these, thinking I may want to keep them showing a little age. Most all of the gold plating is gone from the Gillette safety bar, all the way down to the copper on the head, but I bet it will shave just fine. I could not resist using the open comb razor, it gave a really good close shave. Can't wait to get blades for the auto strop and the Schick injector and use them also.
