I've used the search functions on this and other sites. Long before posting. I guess the question should have been is there a way to determine exactly what the material is (like the hot pin test to find if scales are bone) and the care for it? Thanks for the reminder that "search" should be used, whether it the fancy advanced function or a simple Boolean expression on a usenet server. Thanks

Only way I know of is for someone who knows to get a good look in person. I had one of the pressed paper. Ignorant me, I went out and scrubbed them under running water and they turned to mush! I have heard that the leather ones like a bit of neetsfoot or mineral oil. See if you can post up some close pics. Look at the texture inside the scales. Might be clues? I have one with pressed leather. I will try to get pics up soon.
