Thread: Ǹew (to me) razors

The last two razors I bought, both for an extremely low price.

A JA Hellberg - Estilstuna "Extra Prima Kvalite" I received last Friday. It came with a 1/16 chip in the blade and excessive hone wear. I had to grind past that chip, so I'm now re-establishing a bevel. The wide and rough bevel was already there (imagine how wide it looked with an extra 1/16 of blade).



An old Joseph Elliot's Best Silver Steel smiler that still needs a lot of clean up, I have received it this morning and thus didn't work on it yet. It has no hone wear that I can spot. I was able to put a working 1k bevel on it to do a quick arm test, it removed hair with ease.

You can clean the rust off of those with a product I found on here that works really great. I went on eBay & found it & bought some but haven't tried it yet. I can't remember the razor a member used it on but I can probably find it. The product is called Evapo-Rust. I see the Elliot has some black spots on it which is rust. Good job on the work you have done to them so far!

Advanced Auto parts carries it also. so does O'Reilly, and probably many other auto parts stores near to you.

I have some razors I need to restore that have some rust on the blade. Evapo-Rust should do the trick!

Evapo-rust is not locally available, so I usually make a batch of molasses water... it's a nice soft rust chelator. I have used it successfully on a lot of antique tools.

Oh yeah, I forgot to define "extremely low price": $3.76 and $2.49 (+ shipping, of course)
