    Default Big Joseph Elliot Frameback

Place I bought this from underestimated the size slightly. First sheffield frameback of this style I have managed to buy after being shot down a lot of times. Ultra cool.

Does your measuring thing say 1"? Either way, you got a real nice frameback there. Congratulations!

I suppose it depends on how you call it. I would say 15/16 or so in raw height but it ebbs to 1 if you count the upturn. It's really big for a frameback. A nice surprise as he told me 7/8.

Nice score! I have the exact same model myself. I've seen some people say that framebacks can be especially harsh to shave with because the blade is very stiff and doesn't flex but mine took a great edge and is super smooth and comfortable. Does the face of the blade on yours have even grind lines from the spine to edge? Mine has different grind lines in the middle versus the top and bottom of the blade. I don't know if someone touched the sides to a grinder after the frameback spine was put on for some reason? I think you can see what I am talking about in my photo.

@goldragon, that thing is massive, would like to find one like that, but only to collect.

The tapering grind is what you see in the first photo. It starts at the middle and moves down to the edge almost like the grind on a knife or cleaver. That is bs about framebacks, they just need to be honed in a way that suits the steel. If ppl have a rough go it is probably from really super light ones leading to bad habits
