Just got myself a W&B FBU
I won this at an auction recently. Got it for a song too. Thankfully the rust is all just surface rust. There's no real major pitting and the original scales are in very good shape. Initially I gave it a little bath in some WD40 and a fair amount of rust wiped off but not near all. I then scrubbed it for a bit with some Flitz and 0000 steel wool and that really seemed to help. It still needs some polishing for sure and it looks like a chimpanzee honed it so the edge will have to be re-profiled but I think so far it's looking pretty good.

Thanked: 4828That is going to be a bear to hone. That is quite the frown on the back. Hopefully the pitting near the edge does not effect the ability for it to hold a bevel. You may have to go back a little bit, however you are going to loose a little getting it straight. Are you up for restoring that edge or are you going to send it out? I think once it gets back up and in the line up it will be just fine. I am currently working on a polish and steel wool job myself, mine is a little deeper and mostly the tang. Yours will be up and shaving much sooner. If you are going to hone it yourself you should watch gssixguns videos on bread knifing and honing a smiling edge. I think there is three for each of those.

Well I am a complete novice just getting into honing and restoring so this one I will definitely have someone else fix for me. I wouldn't dare. There's plenty of meat left so someone much more skilled than I should be able to do this razor justice. I have not seen the gssixguns videos you mentioned but I definitely will watch them. I've seen several of his videos though and they never disappoint.

Thanked: 4828You can either put that aside and work at hand polishing it a little here and there until you are at a place to fix it or send it out. There are a number of talented restorers here on the forum. Some you will find advertised in the classifieds member services and some you will find by word of mouth. Check the classifieds and talk to some people. There is never any harm in taking your time to weigh your option before making a decision. It is a nice razor and it will shave quite nicely once it is done up right.
