    Default Reccent Purchase

    Hello folks,
Its been a while since I last posted but I lurk quite often. I recently came into possession of a nice wee straight razor, after I had it honed and polished I find it is a cracking shaver. I am at a loss, however, to find any information on it. It's around the 5/8 mark and has KYOEI etched into the tang on one side and some Japanese writing on the other.

Any info on this would be appreciated as my curiosity is killing me.

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks, the scales are what attracted me to it, the fact its a good shaver is a bonus.

OK after some research I think this translates as Hitachi Yasuki Steel. Thats all I have right now.

A little more info I managed to find out, no idea how accurate it is though. Yasuki was apparently an independent steelworks until the 60s(?) when they were taken over by Hitachi, Yasuki was added alongside Hitachi. I am curios as to the number 94 on the tang. Could this be the year of manufacture? and why would it be in English rather than Japanese?

I guess you nice folks will be wondering why I am making a fuss over such a small thing :P, I am just killing time awaiting the delivery of my newest acquisition.
