Joseph rodgers Army surgical razor.
I'm quite happy to have gotten this razor as they seem quite rare, dont see many Joseph Rodgers with the stainless steel scales, there is some weight to it. I will have to compare it to my Wapi weight wise when I get chance.
Ive not got round to honing it up yet, maybe next week.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but how do you know that was an army surgical razor?

The arrow logo on reverse of tang is the logo for british government property (broad arrow)
There was another thread on here a few years ago with same razor except it had HM government property rather than the arrow. And it was mentioned it would of been for military use.

I have never seen that arrow marking on a Joseph Rodgers! Very rare. Great score!!!

I have one that says HM govt. property or words along that line, not the arrow marking. Its been in the shop for a while and I haven't looked at it in a while either so I'm not exactly sure what it says. The SS scales are in real good condition, the blade was pretty pitted and had some pitting in the edge, can't complain too much as it only cost me $11 shipped. I tried to hone it a couple times but because of the pitting in the edge its been a bear trying to get the pits out. Will try it again some day and hope it shave well.

Thanked: 118Nice, I have one of these myself but I don't remember if it has the broad arrow on the reverse side of the tang or not. I did hone and tried to shave with mine and it *hurt*, like the stainless steel scales are so heavy they pinched the thin flesh on my fingers right into the bone. Maybe it was more comfortable for the doctors/nurses to use if they had gloves on but I have never tried using mine a second time. It's a very cool novelty to have in a straight razor collection however!

Thanked: 1Very Nice, i immediately though Indian service as although the broad arrow often had the I above or below the Broad Arrow it could be incorporated into the broad arrow as thats what came to mind as there seams to be a stick across the bottom of the broad arrow centre line.
Possibly reading to much into it, i have a service issue possibly ww1 straight buried somewhere in the collection but i to have had a stainless called army issue razor turn up today but a george butters with a lovely no in that the box is covered with george butler advertising.
