Big Surprize in small package. I hope
I guess by now I like the Tuckmar razors. I saw this one and bid and to my suprize got it. It's small a 4/8 blade and I really don't think it had ever been used. I didn't take new photos because the only thing I did was to clean and hone and oil it. No rust just dull from the years. it shined up pretty good with flitz (I hope I spelled it close). As far a honing it was quick to take an edge. I'll find out tomorrow how it shaves. I have one other 4/8 razor it's a boker I use now just for trimming the stash. The boker is a square point and this one is a round point. I honed it with the naniwa 1-3-5-8-12K and finished with a 20K Suehiro. I put it to bed with a coating of SRD razor oil and wax paper until I use it.

I had a chance to use this little wonder this morning. It was delightful. it seemed as though the whiskers just melted away from the edge and I'm not by any means a expert honer of razors. I have been buying and cleaning and using different razors to find the ones I like best. if one doesn't live up to my expectations I make sure it's honed properly and then list it on eBay. I have had razors that looked great honed well but for some reason or the other didn't feel good in my hand. I have arthritis in my hands and some razors just don't feel right. This one has found a home. it feels good in the hand honed easily and shaves quiet well and it looks good to me and I think that meets all qualification of being a good razor.

Thanked: 169I consider Tuckmar equal to Dorko and Puma as far as solingen blades go. Top of the heap

I have to agree with kcb, Tuckmar is an upper echelon razor. I have only one (an Eclipse) and it had been "well loved" when I got it. It was in nowhere near the condition of yours but I had the same experience - it takes and holds a great edge and just feels right in the hand. Looks like you found a keeper.
rs,
TackI have great faith in fools - self confidence my friends call it.

I currently have 4 Tuckmar razors and am looking for one or two more. When I do see them there either too much or in bad shape. I lucked out with the ones I have and they do shave great. I've never used or seen in person a Dorko or Puma but I read that they are wonderful razors. I have heard a lot about the double ducks and do own 2 but I'm having trouble warming up to them. I think it's the scales. there are pretty but for me just don't feel right. I would say that to me that for the Solingen razors that I like my 6/8 henckel and then any of the 4 tuckmars. I don't want to take anything away from the others just listing my favorite first then the others. The others shave good and as a friend of mine once said before it's over I'll find that I'll have many favorites.

Thanked: 169They really don't get the appreciation they deserve as far as german blades go. FW Engels as well. FWE will just take on a savage edge. I'd quite like to buy a 8/8 tuckmar special eventually, but I have other fish to fry at the moment. As for Dorko, they are spectacular... there really is no other word for it...
