    Default New BBW

So I am posting in show and tell because I want to show you guys my new stones. Picked up at a fraction of the cost I got a smokin' deal. Not sure how to use it in my progression but at least I know I can. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430434688.269925.jpg

On a side note it came with a little coticule to make slurry with which is awesome because I recently got a coticule without one. Just to share with you. .. Any ideas and tips on the BBW?

Use in between the bevel setter and the coticule

So there is the normal "all natural stones are different, so you have to experiment to see where your natural X fits with respect to your natural Y." That said, BBW's are typically considered to be "coarser" than coticules. But many coticules, though "finer," will cut faster than a BBW. So, see sentence 1.

I'll agree with you 100% I think what allures me about naturals (and I don't know why I only want/own Belgians) is that they really are a box of chocolates, you could get something amazing, or something only okay. I will have to play around. Do you use one ever?

I posted a joke photo some time back of how I mostly used my coticule at the time; lots of people did like it. I've had a few and kept one, just to have it. It would be unusual for me to use it; typically I use a vintage Thurry or an Asagi to finish. All synthetic before that, for the consistency.

They are good for cleaning up the mess a bevel setter leaves behind. Imo, maybe 1 in 40 bits you come across you would be happy shaving off of and maybe 15/40 would be acceptable to shave straight from albeit blah. They are not bad for sweeping up the mess so you can get the mop out, though...

Off topic slightly. I saw the header and it reminded me of when I was quite new there had been several BBW posts and I didn't want to ask the obvious question so I googled it, there was not a lot about hones that came up. LOL.

So here is my 2 cents.
I decided to use just my BBW coticule

Now in the real world. I use a 1K Norton for bevel set. Start with Coticule side with milkly slurry. 50 x strokes dilute to water.
Flip stone redo entire series on BBW side. Go back to Coticule side and redo from the beginning at slurry all the way down to water.

Now if you got that far. It should shave at a 8K level. Its all about testing as you go.
You are replacing tape with each side change.
Now you can retape with 2 layers of new tape and Start at Milky slurry aka UNICOT.
Anymore indepth questions please see this link.

Your only as good as your last hone job.
