Thanked: 1185Greaves frameback (brass)
I bought/stole this some time ago. It didn't need much more than some polishing and I only used some white and blue on the buffer followed by some Maas. I don't know what took so long to get around to this but I wish I would have finished right after I got it now that I have used it. When I need a change of pace but not a drastic one I will be pulling this one out. It cuts like a Sheffield in so much as it just mows like an 8/8 wedge, without having to use 2 mirrors to see what I'm doing. It gives some feedback with sound which is one of the things I like about using my Ducks. It's not a lot of noise but it's definitely there singing in a low voice.
W Greaves&Sons stamped on the tang. Patented stamped in the spine. Not sure if the stamp was off which it may have been because it's so crooked, or if it was honed off. I tend to think miss stamp because what does show is right where the hone wear would be most evident. It may have been restored previously but I sure don't see much sign of wear.
The scales were a little rough on the edges but not enough to warrant taking it apart or trying to sand them down while it's together. I like it just like it is thank you.
When I bought it I knew I would be keeping it and now that it's up and running I thought it should have a special place to park well protected from the some what unorganized collection that is slowing getting out of hand. My good buddy and Duck hunting partner Chevhead is making some cool looking boxes and I got one from him. They looked pretty cool in the pics he posted but I got to tell you guys this box is built as good as it looks. Chev , I am especially impressed by the fit of the 2 pieces. They close up real nice and smooth and stay together perfectly. No slop at all and no chance of the lid coming off by accident. Very nice craftsmanship indeed. I love that pop sound it makes when I pull it apart.
The pics aren't so great because I am without a photo tent right now but I think you can see the 2 look like they belong together.I keep forgetting what kind of wood he used but I love it. Hope he posts a link hear and tells me for the 5th time what kind of wood I got again. :<0)
Hope you enjoy and thanks for dropping in.Last edited by 10Pups; 05-07-2015 at 05:09 AM.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
