Received this as one of a pair of NOS Shumates which had been forgotten and were starting to develop some few, but deep pits and scars.
Started, and stayed with nothing more than mothers and some various cloth bits and a whole lot of thumb grease to remove rust and smooth out this lovely spike point piece of American steel.
The original edge was still on it from almost 100 years ago but I added a piece of tape to the spine and took her to my coti gently. Finished on a zulu than .25 diamond, than linen strop, bridal leather, and finally kanoyama.
First shave tonight and I was super pleased. Sings through three days growth and was just easy to control for the two pass shave I had.
My first vintage score like this, and happy to share the success.
Cheers.
