I had been watching this one for a while and sent an offer to the seller. to my suprize it was accepted and now it's on it's way to me. I like not only large razors but small ones to. don't know much about the brand but it's Solingen and looks in good shape. If it not really that good then for what I gave for it I want be out that much. I have a couple of other smallies and they shave rather well. Boker red injun , Tuckmar, Wade and Butcher . I use the boker when I trim the stash and the others do give a nice shave. Now the waiting has begun can't wait for it to arrive.

I was thinking about buying one of those "Peter Hahn" razors identical to yours last September off the BST. Eventually I declined, but I did find out a lot of fascinating information on it, if you'd like to take a gander...

I find it more likely that Peter Hahn made the razor and Droescher was the importer. Droescher imported a lot of different and typically high quality razor that were marked for him.
In any event if you like small razors this one is likely to please you. It looks great and if you got a great buy on it then it is a win win.

I've had several small-ish razors, and they all shaved wonderfully. Bottom line is that only the edge does the work.

This finally got here from japan and with no surprise it is exactly as described. the only thing is in the photos I couldn't tell if it was a inox. it is. I've been having trouble with stainless and have gotten good advice and instruction here on the place and in person with a friend. I will tackle it as soon as I get the henckel cleaned up. I got the 17 in today also and it has a little surface rust spots that I think will clean up good. i'll post photos after the clean up and honing. Today must have been Christmas because I also got my order from SRD and can't wait to try out the sample soaps.

Peter Hahn was celebrated as "The Honest Blacksmith of Solingen - there was a statue of him in Germany which was destroyed by bombing in 1944, as shown on this postcard:



The postcard is supposed to tell his story, but I cannot read German too well! I do know that 'Hahn" means hammer, though. It is hard to find out anything about him, but his mark - or name - was acquired by Friedrich Baurmann:



There was a Peter Hahn born in Rhineland who emigrated with his family 1n 1833. He had a son - Peter Hahn and no doubt his father was also a Peter Hahn. They bought a farm and erected a small toolshop among other things. Peter Hahn jnr. learned the blacksmith trade along with his brother Adam. Maybe this family is linked somehow to the original honest blacksmith? Who knows...

The mark "Peter Hahn" was added to their line in 1926, which beggars the question whether the mark existed before then - I personally thin that they called their razors Peter Hahn in celebration of his name, but I could very well be wrong. The fact that the statue was standing in Solingen at that time could have persuaded then to make this brand up.

Severin Droescher's company was active from 1891 to 1924. The company did make razors in the USA but were also importers of razors, hones, etc. So the Peter Hahn razors were only made for SRD by Fr. Baurmann & Co. in Solingen and exported to America.

As Fr. Baurmann's company outlived S.R. Droescher's company (still in existence in 2014 according to renewal of trademarks), then Hahn would have owned the mark and any inference that Dovo had a hand in matters (as speculated in the thread linked to above) seems erroneous.

So, Friedrich Baurmann & Co were the maker and S. R. Droescher were the american importers.

I honed this little jewel up this afternoon and tried to shave with it tonight. I was sure glad that I honed up the henckel to. The Henckel shaved fairly nice. Took my time and watched that point closely. didn't want to get it too close to the ear. The peter han well that's another story. it felt like it had honed up good. took a long hair from the wifes hair brush and held it and the little blade just clipped it all the way up. but when I put it to the face. Ouch. I really like the looks and the size but i'm going to try the hones again after that it may have to find a new home. You can call it inox or stainless or what ever it's giving me a fit. Now my honing not like one of the pros but I usually can shave with my work but this is the second razor of it's kind that don't like me. It is a pretty little thing though. looks sometimes are deceiving.

I have had a few that I thought would rock on the shave but not so much. I think most times it is because I have gone too far, or in the case of stainless used too much pressure while honing, especially on the 1K and 4K. Just a theory. I have to check it over a longer period before I really buy into it, but a well known member here suggested it to me so it is very likely the truth and initially it looks like a viable theory.

Well I re-hone this razor and looking through 10X loop could see no problem. but then again I don't see as well as others. If it doesn't do better the next time well it's quite but not that quite.
