280 shave mugs
Last week I met a man who inherited a very large collection of assorted antiques from his father. Apparently barber shop items were some of his favorites. He left behind over 500 straight razors, 300 mugs, dozens of brushes, strops etc. All of which were for sale.
Unfortunatly for me, 500 of the razors were sold before I had the chance to make an offer. However I was able to purchase a collection of about 280 antique shaving mugs, 12 straights, 12 brushes, 2 Rolls Razors and some odds and ends. Now, Im taking time to sort them out and research the different styles and makes.
If there are any mug experts in the crowd that would be willing to share some knowledge please send me a PM! Thanks!
Here's a drop in the bucket.

Thanked: 4828Your collection has grown a lot over the last few years. I think about two years ago you posted pictures of your barber shop display. Any chance of the happening again. I hope my collection does not just get sold off without care for it when my days come to pass. Most of us put a lot of time and effort into our collections. Those mugs should make a pretty impressive display in your shop.

You will need to find a new Barber shop building soon to fit the huge collection you have. Possibly the size of a WalleyMart
Josh'es Mega Shop
For a haircut just go down isle #3 turn left at the mugs, proceed past the brush kiosk and have a seat.

That is getting to be a great collection.
For passing it on or for, heaven forbid, insurance claims, have a good catalog with prices paid.
My kids have some idea of valuation so the stuff won't hit the market in a bulk dump!'

Did he mention who got the rest of the straights? I wonder if it was an eBay seller , those guys are really starting to hoard up ,, and from what you got he must have been a discriminating collector , I didn't see any junk there. Tc
