I found a Middleton 8/8 in an antique mall, got it for $25 and had it restored. It shaves fine, but I've discovered that it does not take well to stropping on linen, that the linen seems to make the edge fragile. Since I discontinued using linen on it, it has been fine. I no longer use linen stropping at all.

Thinking of turning the bead on the edge, then doming, let us know what you come up with. It would be nice if you could post some close up photos of the collars once you get them off.
