    Default French framebacks in ivory

These came from a lot at an off-ebay auction. After cleaning, there was some pitting but they are quite nice. Made by G.F. Picault, No. 46 Rue Dauphine (Paris). He exhibited in the 1851 exhibition in London (https://books.google.com/books?id=TC...uphine&f=false)

The ivory in the second razor has a very interesting grain to it, I've never seen ivory like it. Not that I've seen a lot

Plain gorgeous... I would build a new rococo shave den just for them.

That's the first thing I noticed as well, I have never seen it before but it looks like the ivory was cut "across the grain" instead of "with" it? There's no way an elephant tusk was that wide though... I wonder what caused that look and why we don't see more of it.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like curly wood. The more handling and usage that it receives will make it stand out even more. Time really seems to be a friend to ivory.
