Thanked: 3My most recent acquisitions in ivory
I've been away at that pesky thing called work and have not had the time to share so here are my latest! However, the wife has now closed my funds for supporting RAD. I am selling off some of my starter razors to make space for these and make my wife feel a little better about the addiction, I mean hobby. Following suit with some of you I purchased a display case and will turn it into a wall mounted cabinet in the shave den to show off my glorious rotation.
My wife even supported the decision!
C.V. Heljestrand Eskiltuna MK No. 30 5/8 and no hone wear that I can tell! Spike point yet it slopes almost to a french point. She shaves marvelously but she is so light that I can feel the resistance of the hair, no pulling just resistance.
Brookes and Crookes 7/8 dreadnaught point. This is the closest "true wedge" that I own. Immaculate Ivory! Still working to get this one honed to the right comfortable edge.
My steal. She was obtained on the super cheap due to attention given to her other sisters on the bay'. She is a unique Joseph Rodgers and Sons fluted spine round point 6/8 near wedge. She is cut ground out like a boat and smooth lines all around. The face of the blade reads "H. C. H....1 173 Broadway N.Y." There is an awesome flame to the ivory on this one. too bad she is cracked
This one is a Joseph Rodgers and Sons 5/8 spike 1/4 hollow with solid white ivory scales. This one is cool because you can only see the fine ivory lines when gleaning in the light.
Joseph Allen and Sons NON XLL 12/16 Round Point 1/2 hollow. The gold paint on the scales is wearing off so she may end up in the case for looks instead of being in the rotation but she shaves wonderfully.
This girl is on my top five favorites as she mows through the hair, was easy to hone, and looks sexy. T. Wigfall 7/8 dreadnaught point near wedge. This is unique in that the tail is soooo dainty from anything else I have come across.
Mappin and Webb 5/8 round point 1/2 hollow. She screams barely used, all the original polish is there, too bad for some of the storage pitting in areas. She is a pleasure to dance with.
So this is one of my coolest buys. several weeks ago a seller on ebay was selling off a HUGE selection of premier quality razors. This brush caught my eye and it was in a grouping of a cheap junky hand brush. $15!!! I was ready to pay over $100 just because it was a travel brush. It is IVORY! I want to use it SOOO bad but the last 100+ year old bone brush I had I used disintegrated into pieces from the moisture within 24 hours of me receiving it. So this will be resting in my collection and when I can figure out what type of bone I can lathe I will make a reproduction to use on a regular basis.
I bought this out in the wild for $24. Wade and Butcher 7/8 near wedge Barber's notch. She had one warped original scale on a side and a wooden replacement scale on the other. I used the original for the template and reproduced the scales from streaked black water buffalo horn and made a black walnut wedge. I spent 6+ hours hand sanding to get it to where I was happy with it. She shaves great and will be my new living history razor when I go out into the field.

Thanked: 56That's amazing. I think ivory is amazing; it's a shame it was so overcollected in the past. Who knows...if they had been conservation minded, we might have a sustainable supply today.

Very, very nice score my friend!!! You did a fantastic job & if the knot in that ivory brush is history, I'd most likely replace it with one from TGN or just leave it alone & put it in the display case. Other than that, you have an exceptional setup there. I have a Jonathan Crooks with ivory scales that have a crack in one side but it works fine so I'm just gonna leave it alone for now. Someone used collars on the pins which is probably what might have cracked one scale but it is scary sharp & shaves superbly!
